About the Thompson Drop Table Technique
Patients of Dr. Xaivier Tipler at Proficient Chiropractic in St. Louis receive relief from pain and discomfort in many ways. One effective treatment option we offer is the Thompson Drop Table Technique. Let’s explore what the drop table technique is and how it can help you or your loved one find long-term pain relief.
A Basic Description
The Thompson Drop Table Technique was developed and patented by Dr. J. Clay Thompson in 1955. He intended to create a better way of adjusting his patients’ spines – a way that would be gentler for the patient and also easier on the chiropractor administering treatment.
The key is the use of a special table, one that includes separate segments, or “drop pieces” that drop slightly and suddenly as required. The patient lays face-down on the table. The act of suddenly dropping the appropriate table segment at the moment that section of the spine is being manipulated by the chiropractor helps us adjust the spine in a gentler method.
To put it another way, your chiropractor can get the same beneficial results while using much less force or pressure to manipulate the lower back, upper back, and pelvic area. It’s also less jarring and more soothing to the patient. This chiropractic treatment is known as the Thompson Terminal Point Technique or simply the Thompson Technique.
The Value to You, Our Valued Patient
At Proficient Chiropractic, we do nothing that doesn’t directly contribute to the health and well-being of our patients. We use the Thompson Drop Table Technique for a couple of simple reasons: it’s good for you and supplements the other treatments we provide.
The prone position you’ll assume also makes it easier for our chiropractor to adjust your spine for uneven leg length. That’s a more common affliction than you might think. If you’re walking on legs of differing lengths, it can significantly contribute to musculoskeletal pain and discomfort. We use the Thompson Drop Table Technique to check for this and to correct such problems through spinal manipulation.
All you need to know is that you’ll leave a spinal adjustment session on our drop table feeling fresh, energized, and rejuvenated. It’s just one of many valuable services we provide at Proficient Chiropractic.
